Watauaga River

Originating in Foscoe at the foot of Grandfather Mountain, this is a fantastic river. Many a monster trout has been taken in this river. There are many great spots to fish the Watauga River as it runs along Hwy. 105 between Boone and Foscoe. From Boone, head towards Banner Elk until you go through the stop light at the Valle Crucis turn off. The river is on your left and there is room to park just off the road. Going further up the road, you will see the turn off to Hound Ears on your left. This is another popular spot. Even further up the road through the Foscoe community, you will see a sign for a residential community called Sleepy Hollow, turn left and go under the covered bridge to find yet another good spot.
